It comes with a remote access option to turn on or off the camera and view recordings. After adding a camera, the actions can be easily configured from the flexible rules editor. Previously known as Vitamin D Video, Sighthound Video aims to be a more intelligent video software by being able to recognize humans or objects on camera rather than simply detecting motion through frame comparison. There is a password protect function but didn’t work for us. Two unique features that can be found in Sentry Vision are the ability to remote control the software by sending commands to a listening Gmail account and also the ability to hide the program so that normal users won’t know that the webcam is being monitored. Motion detection, broadcast, schedule, email and sound alert are included.

It can record both video from a webcam and audio from a microphone if it is available on the computer. If I need to go and review something though I can with Sighthound's mobile app.Sentry Vision is free webcam surveillance software that only works on webcams and not on IP cameras. The mobile app for Sighthound is coming along, but I find Blue Iris much quicker to just pull up a quick view of what is happening right now. I still find its detection while not perfect is far better than I have used in any other program I have tried and it makes looking for things that happened during the day much easier than sifting through hours of footage and if needed the whole day is there as well not just clips. Sighthound is harder to track since it spawns off different processes for the cameras, but I would estimate it uses around 12 to 25 percent as well depending on what is happening. At night it is lower since a few cameras don't have IR and have less activity. The machine it is running on currently is a 8 core AMD 8350 and Blue Iris by itself during the day uses around 10 to 20 percent cpu depending on the load. That saves on both packages hitting the cameras at the same time and keeps the bandwidth needed much lower.

I use Blue Iris as the "hub" and all the feeds go through it then using localhost Sighthound connects to Blue Iris for all of its feeds. I have them all running on a Windows server 2012 r2 box that also handles nightly backups. I currently have 9 cameras active in different ranges of resolution from around 480 up to 1080. I still like Blue Iris as the web portion seems a bit better and quicker to pull up on all the remote devices we use it on. When I started using Sighthound it was Vitamin D and didn't have any remote viewing options so that's why I used Blue Iris for that portion.
